# Heroes of HDB
Professional Week 2022

The annual HDB Professional Week, comprising the HDB Awards Dinner and the Professional Engagement And Knowledge Sharing (PEAK) Forum, celebrated the achievements of our industry professionals, as well as spotlighted best practices and innovative ideas to drive greater excellence in design, construction, and engineering.

The Awards Dinner held on 11 October 2022 at the Resorts World Sentosa was very well received with over 700 industry partners attending the event. The PEAK Forum on 13 October 2022 also had a full turnout of a more-than-400 strong audience at the HDB Auditorium.

The Organising Team says hello!

The HDB winners and organising team behind the HDB Awards 2022

Q1: What went into the making of HDB Awards 2022?

A1: Preparation for the HDB Awards already started in late 2021! As the Built Environment industry was taking its first steps to emerge from the COVID pandemic, the Awards Dinner was planned to celebrate the good work of our industry partners, and to encourage them to not only recover – but to thrive - in the post-COVID climate.

The event was made possible with the close collaboration of HDB Groups across different Clusters. It was truly a ONE HDB event!

  • Groups in Building Cluster took the lead in organising the event and engaged/shortlisted award winners that exemplified best practices in the industry.
  • Colleagues from CCG curated exciting media releases on the Construction Transformation Project to showcase HDB’s commitment in pushing the frontiers of productivity and innovation.
  • The PLG team facilitated the setting up of exhibitions at HDB Hub, while ISG colleagues ensured the award write-ups were accessible on the HDB InfoWEB.
  • CDG colleagues took care of the invitations for our Board Members, and Group Directors hosted our guests and award winners at the Dinner.

Q2: What was something different that the team experimented with for this year’s event?

A2: This was the very first large-scale physical event organised by HDB since COVID that involved the industry partners. We invited past award winners (51 winners from 2020 and 2021) to join us at the Dinner, to reconnect physically and to celebrate their earlier achievements. There was also a special photo-taking segment with Minister to recognise their efforts and contribution to quality public housing.

Instead of printed programme sheets and award booklets, we adopted an e-folio which could be downloaded via QR codes placed at each dinner table. This allowed us to be more sustainable by reducing paper usage, without compromising the experience of dinner participants!

Q3: : Share with us your team’s takeaway from this experience!

A3: There were many changes in Safe Management Measures leading up to the event. In the span of a few months, the event changed from a hybrid event to a physical event with limited capacity, and finally to one without a cap on attendance!

Due to these changes, we had to exercise flexibility in our planning and be forward-looking to respond and anticipate the unexpected. For instance, our emcee almost couldn’t make it for the event due to COVID! We had to be bold in taking small, measured steps forward when we encountered uncertainties and challenging situations.

The biggest satisfaction was certainly seeing the happy faces of our award winners during the event itself. Witnessing their pride taking pictures with their posters and trophies made all our efforts worthwhile.

PEAK Forum 2022

Themed ‘Designing for Life: Green Towns, Green Living’, the PEAK Forum focussed on how HDB strives to create green, liveable, and sustainable towns for our residents.

Returning to a full-scale physical event on 13 and 14 October 2022, our industry partners were treated to a lively sharing and discussion covering these topics:

Low Carbon Building Innovations

Greening the Vertical City in Nature

Design Strategy for Ulu Pandan Estate

Design of Northshore Waterfront & Northshore Residences

The Organising Team says hello!

The organising team behind the PEAK Forum 2022, comprising colleagues from BRI, BIG, BQG, DPG, RPG and CCG.

Q1: What went into the making of PEAK Forum 2022?

A1: After several years of working remotely and organising virtual events, we were excited to welcome guests back at the HDB Auditorium for the HDB PEAK Forum.

While we were aiming to recreate networking opportunities for our participants and colleagues, we had to balance COVID risks at the same time. One of our speakers came down with COVID the day before the event! We had to work closely with our event organisers to set up and test the system for the speaker to deliver his sharing remotely. We sourced covering officers for key roles early which helped us to recover quickly if anyone came down with COVID.

The PEAK Forum 2022 was the result of a lot of brainstorming and strong partnership across Building, Estate and Corporate Clusters, from curating the presentation topics and content, to preparing the materials for the videos, to hosting the site visit. This being the first time many of our team members were involved in organising such a large-scale event, we were very thankful for the advice and guidance given by our senior colleagues.

Q2: What was something different that the team experimented with for this year’s event?

A2: This year, we opted to hold the main PEAK Forum and site visit on separate days. This allowed participants who were unable to join us for the full 2 days to at least take part in one of the activities.

We were happy to see the overwhelming interest in the site visit to Northshore Residences I & II and Waterfront I & II @ Northshore. It was oversubscribed by 3 times, and we even received a request to host a Vietnamese delegation!

Q3: Share with us your team’s takeaway from this experience!

A3: As a large organisation, the importance of close partnerships and networks become even more crucial. This allows us to tap on each other’s experiences and share resources.

While we are working on large-scale event/project, it is important to remember that little things matter like preparing refreshments for colleagues who took time out of their busy schedules to support the site visit, or a simple thank you note to speakers for gracing the event and sharing their insights. These have helped us to forge stronger partnerships and collaborate better.
